Before we can brew we must have a recipe. Students should select a recipe to be brewed. Now is not the time to experiment. For the pruposes of this course it is highly suggested the each student find a recipe that has been developed and proven. There will be plenty of time to experiment with adjusting and building recipes later. Recipes can be found at several places . They may check on line at ProMash or , grab a brew magazine, check with the local micro-breweries, or read Daniel's "Designing Great Beers" and select one from there.!
![]() | It is suggested that each student choose recipe which uses Ale yeast. This suggested for two reasons. |
![]() | 1st Ale yeast ferments faster than Lager yeast. While a ale will be ready in 4 weeks to drink most lagers take three to four times longer. |
![]() | 2nd to brew a lager you must have frigeration that will hold 5 gallons of wort for the six to twenty weeks required. That is a lot of frig space. |
| Once you have selected your recipe you will need to email it to your instructor for approval. | |
| Your instructor will return you recipe to you with their input with in 24 hrs. (Required for full Certificate.) |
| Pick a yeast that functions well at your room temperature. This will ensure a good brew and will not require more equipement. |
