Now that we have our recipe we need to go shopping. You can purchase your items at any local brew store or from a on line store like DeFalco's. What ever recipe you have chosen you will need the following.

Grain: Most likely between 7 to 12 pounds. Go ahead and have your brew shop grind your grain. Most shops will grind at no extra cost. Do not use a kitchen grinder. We do not want power. (You need the hulls for filtration.)
Hops: You should have between 1 to 3 oz of hops. The amount depends on the style that you chose to brew.
Additives: This could be irish moss, rock candy or any other item the recipe requires.
Brew Vigor: This may or may not be called for in your recipe but I highly recommend adding it to all brews.
Yeast: Ale is recommended and you may fing that liquid or dry is easier. It is not recommended to use pouches on your first brew. Wyeast makes a great yeast that comes in a pouch. There is nothing wrong withthe yeast but you will have to activate it before brewing. The activation time can be 6 hours to 48 hours. If you do use pouch just plan ahead and make sure it is ready when you are.
