Our Keg System
Last year we decided to put in a keg system. It is the best thing we ever did. Now we try and keep two different beers on tap and we always have Coke Cola on hand for the gang. Yes I said Coke Cola. You might ask how, well we cheat. We buy 2 liter and 3 liters on sale and fill up a keg. It cuts down on wasted coke and taste great. Just open and fill. We then take the empty bottles and fill them with water and freeze them to use in the wort pre-chiller. Being in Houston, Texas means that most of our brew days have a temperature of over 80 degrees. The large ice cubes help lower the water temp and it free.
Well here is what we did. We bought a freezer for about $300.00. If you can get a free used one all the better. We choose a freezer because it has more insilation. We then drilled a hole in the side for the CO2 and 4 holes in the front. Why 4 front holes. Well three for taps and one for a drain line. We also installed an external thermostate.
We then installed the tap gear and trip pan. Attach the lines and you have beer.
